romney and ryan in the way the democrats go after the gop when it comes to entitlements, but as we know, last summer, president obama was happy to make serious changes to medicare in exchange for getting a grand bargain. if he is reelected, he will go back to the table and i am sure the same questions will be on the tae again he has said he is open to making those changes. >> let me explain the difference between what obama would do with a $716 billion, and what romney and ryan would do. obama takes the money out of medicare and reduces the payments to doctors and hospitals which obviously reduces services. one sixth of all hospitals will have to shut down or refuse the elderly. he takes the money, and the 716 he saves, and places it into a new entitlement called obamacare, which will fund the uninsured. good cause but it takes from a and gives to b. what ryan does, in the original plan, he takes the same amount, and put it back into the medicare trust fund so it is a way to invest in the future. medicare is a way to see that we are going to cut a little now and then we will have it in

to mitt romney's and paul ryan's budget plan, it would cost $2,000 to pay for tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, it turns medicare into a voucher system. that's one thing that mitt romney was honest about. he said that we should cut medicare benefits. embrace that and proposed it. and then to add insult to injury said, yeah, we won't be able to have medicare to continue to be a guarantee, we will have to shred that safety net to preserve it. barack obama's plan has proven we can add years of solvency, 8 years by making sure we reduce wasteful subsidies to medicare insurance companies and add years of solvency. we need to work together to continue to move forward, not have republicans rooting for failure and really transparently being disappointed that we have made progress. we have a ways to go, but we need to continue to move forward and fight for the middle class, not for the people who are doing really, really well and make sure they can do even better. >> shannon: you brought up obamacare. and medicare, but that's a plan, which outside independent bodies and fact-checking o

about the math for this. and paul ryan said look, the math takes too long. well, mitt romney's solution, he just decided there was not math involved in this problem. and that is absolutely crazy, the only thing he outlined in the budget, that he would cut is big bird. he has taken to sesame street and let wall street run wild. >> if you impose this debt on future generations, and big bird, i can tell you as the father of three children grown now, but any father who has gone to a toy store knows that big bird is a pretty commercially successful. and whether or not we should subsidize it, and say it is not that big of a percentage of the budget, that is true, but every penny that you raise as a cut, seems to be sacred with this administration, and they can't cut it. and i think the american people understand this is a big election and a big choice. >> meanwhile, the big debate about the presidential debate has spilled into a second week. >> the president of the united states had 90 minutes. now, if he had done his homework and actually prepared and actually studied romney, why didn't he s

that ryan has to keep the momentum going from what was widely seen as a mitt romney win in denver? >> we had a good week last week. there's no doubt about it. we have to have a good week this week and the week after, and i think we take it one day at a time. you know, i don't know, i think that the vp debates are very important. you saw in our presidential primary season, candy. we had, what, 22 debates, and at every one of these debates, whether it was on cnn or fox or whatever the station, we had broken records for a primary debate. people enjoy these debates. i would expect a lot of people to be watching. i think paul is going to do a great job, but i also think that joe biden is incredibly gifted when it comes to debating and understanding policy. he is a good orator. >> let me ask you about a colorado poll that came out -- university of denver poll that came out right after the debates, and it showed that colorado is certainly a swing state. kind of shrinking. the lead of barack obama 47%. mitt romney, 43%. i want you to focus on this. someone else 4%. how worried about the fact that ga

and get congressman ryan to commit to positions that may be antithetical opposite to what mitt romney is saying? is he going to try to paint romney with what ryan says at this debate, on medicare, medicaid and on issues like at that? >> absolutely. what he's-- what i'm sure he'll say as well. now romney is talking a moderate game and let's look what you proposed two years ago or four years ago, for instance, ryan's plan, he also took 716 billion dollars out of medicare, and one of the main attack points na romney is making against obama and romney would put that 716 billion dollars back. but, you can be sure that biden is going to say, well in your own budget you were taking the 716 out. so he's going to try to paint, you're exactly right, peter, paint romney with some of ryan's positions not to say they were extreme, but more conservative and more hide line. >> chris, tell us what's coming up on your show today. >> we will have our own debate, alisyn. we are going to have two interesting figures, martin o'mally the governor of maryland and a lot of people think win or lose for obama,
